    • Titre Use of a natural leave extract for dual applications: enhancing plant resistance towards pathogens and photoprotection of active ingredients
    • Description The work describes (i) the elicitor activity, (ii) the antimicrobial activities and (iii) the pesticide photoprotection of natural leaf polyphenolic-rich extracts (LPEs). Twelve LPEs were produced from leaves collected before or after abscission from four different species i.e. red maple, Prunus, plane tree and red oak.
    • Bénéfices The outcome of the technology is to develop promising and inexpensive source of compounds which may be used as safe phytosanitary in agricultural practices with green trend.
LPEs might have specific impacts (i) the use of waste materials generated by the biomass, (ii) an inducer of plant resistance to pathogens, (iii) its usage as photoprotector. They will protect and make long the half life of chemical pesticides, there it will be an immediate impact on the environment by decreasing the applications of sprays or the amount used for spraying.

Considering the three combining properties of LPEs, phytochemicals of this available biomass might arise as prime biocontrol agents. Since LPEs are phytochemicals, it can be used safely in organic agriculture therefore decreasing again the amounts of pesticides used for the crops either for organic or sustainable agriculture.
    • Nouveauté ncreasing the yields is a central concern of farmers. In order to control diseases, routine treatments consisting in massive use of pesticides for decades generated deleterious impacts on the environment and food security. By stimulating the natural plant immunity, elicitor molecules provide resistance against subsequent infections. Elicitors are designed to activate some of the plant defenses directly and with high amplitude that primes and sensitizes the plant for fending off the pathogen. The present invention describes:

Extracts and methods to obtaining said extracts from woody plants in order to produce natural elicitors of plant defenses.
The use of elicitors to activate plant disease defense and resistance to pathogens
The use of extracts to provide photo-protection to other phytosanitary products.
